The Association of Resident Doctors, University College Ibadan, Oyo State, has embarked on a three weeks warning strike starting today, July 20, 2023, to press home their demands for improved welfare packages and other issues presented to the hospital management.
Rising from an emergency meeting summoned to further assess the situation after the expiration of a two-week ultimatum earlier issued to the management, the doctors were dissatisfied that all the issues raised were not attended to, thus, necessitating the industrial action.
The association stated that it is basing its demands on the unsatisfactory progress made so far in the IPPIS capturing of newly employed resident doctors.
It noted that the newly recruited doctors have not been captured or a date scheduled for the capturing exercise.
The ARD also noted that nothing has been offered as a stipend or palliative per month to the doctors by the hospital management, and lamented that non-payment of their entitlements has brought about untold hardship, especially with the removal of fuel subsidy.
The association said that based on the aforementioned, it summoned its members to the down tools and a strike monitoring committee constituted to monitor effectiveness and adherence to the strike action.
