Matheus Cunha has played down rumours that he could be set for a big-money switch to Manchester United this summer, insisting he is ‘very happy’ at Wolves.
The 25-year-old enjoyed an eye-catching first full campaign with Wolves on the back of an impressive six-month loan spell last season, racking up 12 goals and seven assists in the Premier League.
However, Cunha’s form has not gone unnoticed amongst Europe’s elite and there has been some speculation that the attacker could be set for the exit door at Molineux, just 12 months after joining Wolves on a permanent basis.
Old Trafford has been mooted as a possible destination for Cunha and some reports have indicated that Wolves could be tempted to cash in on the Brazil international should they receive an offer of £60million in the summer transfer window.
But it appears Cunha has no intention of ditching Wolves for the bright lights of the Theatre of Dreams just yet, with the forward quizzed on his future while in attendance at Botafogo’s victory over Athletic in his home town of Joao Pessoa.
‘Whenever I can, I come along [to Botafogo]. I always want to show that [the affection] is reciprocated,’ Cunha told Brazilian publication Globo Esporte.
‘Then we see that talk [regarding Manchester United]. But I’m very happy at Wolves.’

Cunha is keen to continue on an upward trajectory at Wolves after enjoying a strong start under the tutelage of Gary O’Neil.
‘My focus is on resting and making the most of my time with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves,’ he added.
‘The focus now is on having better seasons and helping the club.
‘God willing, I’ll continue on this path.’

Cunha’s current contract at Wolves, which he signed upon arrival last summer, runs through to 2027.
The Brazilian – capped 11 times at international level – previously enjoyed spells with Sion, RB Leizpig, Hertha Berlin and Atletico Madrid.
In a recent interview with The Shropshire Star, Cunha spoke candidly about his creeping doubts at Wolves after Julen Lopetegui was replaced by O’Neil as manager last August.
‘It was hard for me to be honest because Julen was the manager who brought me here,’ he said.

‘I had a very good relationship with him and I’m grateful to him for bringing me here. You always want to work with the manager who brought you here because you feel confident.
‘Gary came and I started to be a little bit afraid about what would happen. I lost the manager who bought me and maybe this manager doesn’t like me! But I think it’s been the best relationship I’ve had with a gaffer, ever.
‘I really enjoy working with him and how he manages the group. I’ve learned a lot on how to manage a group and hard situations.
‘I have more appreciation for football with him. He is the person I have a lot of appreciation for.’
