A 7.6-MAGNITUDE earthquake has sparked tsunami warnings in eastern Russia as terrified locals said boats ‘jumped’ out of water and buildings shook.

Video shows how furniture was seen shaking in offices and apartments as locals scrambled to leave buildings and shopping malls on Russia’s Pacific coastline.

People as far as 600 miles away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky could feel “light vibrations” when the earthquake happened at 2.49am local time.

There was also panic in the Kuril Islands – north of Japan – and on the Kamchatka volcano and glacier peninsula.

Residents in the northern Kuril Islands remained under threat from a tsunami and were ordered to remain on higher ground then await instructions.

A tsunami warning issued by the US authorities for Hawaii was rescinded, and officials said there was no danger to either the US or Canadian west coasts.

One video showed the scary impact in an apartment on Paramushir, one of the Kuril Islands.

A local said: “It was terrifying.”

Another added: “Boats were jumping.”

One said: “F***, it was shaking for so long and that was frightening.”

Reports said a tsunami wave round 20-feet high was witnessed at Severo-Kurilsk in the Kurils.

Electricity and internet was disrupted in Severo-Kurils, kbut there were no reports of fatalities.

The Japan Meteorological Association said there might be slight tidal changes but no warnings or watch advisories were issued.

A resident of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city of 180,000 and some 283 miles from the undersea epicentre, said: “It was shaking for a while. At first not very strong, for a while, then a strong wave. Everyone ran out of their offices.”

The area – like the Kurils – is in the earthquake zone but residents were shocked at the severity.

Another said: “We were on the fifth floor. The swinging went on for a long time, then the cupboards hit against the walls and the doors rattled.

“I am used to earthquakes here, but I was scared at the last strong shocks. My grandson aged six was very scared.

“Now he doesn’t go a step away from me at home. Yes, and the roar was very strong.”

A resident of another town posted: “Thank God we stocked on toilet rolls because we really s*** ourselves. Water was pouring everywhere.”
