CORONAVIRUS cases in the UK have now reached 116 and the first British death has been announced as a 75-year-old woman in Berkshire.

It comes as chief medic Chris Whitty warned there is “next to no chance” of stopping the spread of coronavirus.

He said: “The original plan… was very much predicated on the idea of ‘if it could be controlled in China and contained everywhere else, this virus might go away’.

“I think the chances of that happening are now very slim. Slim to zero.”
