New poll predicts landslide victory for Labour with 194-seat majority

Labour could win by a landslide in the General Election over the Conservatives, according to a new mega poll that revealed the likely new makeup of the Commons.

YouGov predicts a historic victory for the Labour party, while Conservatives could be headed for their worst result since 1906 if the election was held tomorrow.

Labour is set to win a majority of 194 seats, which is more than the New Labour victory in 1997.

Conservatives are predicted to win just 140 seats – Tories’ worst result in 117 years.

This means the Tories would lose a whopping 232 seats compared to the 2019 election result.

Some political heavyweights are at risk of losing their seats after almost 60,000 people were asked about their voting plans up and down the country.

Tories are set to be decimated in London, the North East, the North West and Wales, meaning they will retreat predominantly to the South East, South West and East Anglia, Sky News reports.

Lib Dems are set quadruple their places with 48 new seats, according to the YouGov prediction.

The Conservatives are not the only once set for a loss as YouGov predicts the SNP losing more than half of its seats in Scotland.

The Scottish National Party would get just 17 of 57 seats in Scotland, according to the projection, the party’s lowest score this decade.

The Greens could win two seats based on the poll.

Reform UK, now led by Nigel Farage into the election after his announcement, is set to be left without any seats, the poll says.

Here are some of the biggest names set to lose their seats, including Jacob Rees-Mogg and the chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

Other prominent figures are defence secretary Grant Shapps, leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt, attorney general Victoria Prentis, justice secretary Alex Chalk, the Welsh secreatry David Davies, the armed forces minister Johnny Mercer, and the science, and innovation and technology secretary Michelle Donelan, Sky News reports.

Those hanging in the balance are Steve Baker, Bim Afolami, and Lee Rowley.

The projection shows 22 of the 45 government ministers are at a risk if people cast their vote tomorrow.

For Labour, the shadow culture secretary Thangham Debonnaire could risk losing her Bristol Central seat to the Greens.

The pollsters used the MRP projection model for the first time in the General Election in its mega poll carried out for Sky News.

The defence secretary Grant Shapps was live on Sky News when he hang up after the broadcaster’s deputy political editor Sam Coates told him that he is on course to lose his seat.
