Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has been remarkably open about his aim for the European Championships this summer, hoping to attract the attention of top clubs with his performances for Belgium.

The 22-year-old has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United after some impressive displays for the Toffees over the last two seasons.

Onana moved to Goodison Park from Lille in 2022 for a fee of around £33m and has made 72 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring four goals.

The imposing holding midfielder has won 11 caps for his country and hopes to add to that this summer, intending to catch the eye of Europe’s biggest clubs in the process.

‘At previous tournaments, you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for,’ Onana told Het Laatste Nieuws, via 90min.

‘I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.’

Belgium are in Group E of Euro 2024, beginning their campaign against Slovakia on 17 June, before taking on Romania and Ukraine.

Onana has already done enough to attract the attention of top clubs, with a string of Premier League giants already eyeing him as a possible signing.

Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the Belgian, although their financial struggles may prevent them from making a move.

Everton may well have to sell one of more of their best players this summer as they look to improve their own financial situation, but Barcelona are unlikely to be able to compete with Premier League forces if the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal want Onana.

Spanish publication Sport reports that Everton will be looking for around €60m (£51.1m) for Onana, but Barca would be limited to bids of around €40m (£34m), which would be unlikely to cut the mustard.
