A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a young mum was stabbed to death on a busy beach.

Amie Gray, 34, was attacked on Durley Chine Beach in Bournemouth, Dorset on Friday and she died at the scene.

Another woman, aged 38, was also attacked and she is still fighting for her life in hospital.

Dorset Police has now arrested a 20-year-old, from Croydon in south London, on suspicion of murder.

The force put out a CCTV appeal on Sunday, calling for anyone who recognised the hooded man to get in touch with them.

A mile-long stretch of the popular beach, which had been busy thanks to the bank holiday sun, was cordoned off by police while they investigated the scene.

Dorset Police said: ‘Following extensive enquiries, a 20-year-old man from the Croydon area of London has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.’

The force said intelligence and firearms officers worked with the Metropolitan Police to arrest the man in London.

A 17-year-old boy, from Lancashire, had been arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of murder, but he has since been released without charge.

Amie’s wife Sian and daughter shared a tribute, describing Amie as a ‘forever loved wife and mother’.

Friend Nicola Smale said: ‘Fly high Amie Gray, I’ll miss you so much. I feel so heavy!

‘You were such a good friend and someone I could call about anything.

‘A beautiful person inside and out, thank you for all the laughs and memories I will cherish forever.’

Another friend Michelle Small, who said she worked with Amie in her first job when she had just turned 17, stressed she was ‘devastated’ by the news.

She said: ‘She was always the kindest lovely young girl and continued to be so throughout her cruelly cut short life. RIP beautiful girl.’
