The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, has appealed to the youths of Oyo State to shun drug abuse and social vices, emphasising that these detrimental behaviours can derail their prospects for a successful and fulfilling life.

He stated this during a Children’s Day event held by a non-governmental organisation founded by Mrs. Ramota Agberemi-Dabo, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on local government and chieftaincy matters.

The event was held at the Akinyele Local Government Secretariat and saw the participation of over 100 students from 22 selected government and private secondary schools in Ibadan.

Oyelade cautioned the students about the dangers of drug abuse, stating that drug abuse truncates the vision for a great life and a brighter future.

He also advised the youths not to focus on achieving success through politics, highlighting that many professionals outside the political arena lead happier and more content lives.

The commissioner also advised them not to be influenced by digital innovations, which can distract them from their goals.

He added, “You can excel and be more successful and contented than the politician, provided you abstain from drug abuse and other emerging social vices.”

Earlier, Agberemi-Dabo encouraged the students to remain committed to their education, underscoring the pride and joy that academic success brings to their parents.

She expressed her dedication to nurturing future leaders from a young age, hoping to inspire them to achieve greatness.

“The Children’s Day programme highlights the commitment of Oyo State’s government and non-governmental organisations to the well-being and future success of its youth, promoting a message of education and a drug-free lifestyle as cornerstones of a promising future,” she said.
