Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has commended the Federal Government and the Nigerian military for deploying more troops to the state in a bid to tackle the activities of bandits.

The governor particularly thanked the troops of the Joint Task Force for the sustained onslaught against the assailants that have been causing chaos in the state.

This is contained in a statement after a State Security Council meeting which discussed the security situation and the ongoing onslaught against bandits.

The meeting was attended by all heads of security agencies in the state to include; the military, police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.

Governor Lawal commended the troops for the successes recorded so far in the fight against banditry.

“Today’s meeting will evaluate the state security situation, assess our progress, and pinpoint areas requiring intensified efforts to enhance the security of our people’s lives and property.

“As I have always emphasised to the security council, the priority of my administration is the security of lives and properties.

“Therefore, we are always prepared to provide all the necessary support to various security agencies in the state to help them carry out their duties diligently and effectively.

“I want to thank the Federal Government and the military for deploying additional troops to the state.

“This strategic move aims to eliminate all bandits, and we have started seeing results.

“I also commend the troops for the arrest of a group of kidnappers in Gusau and the rescue of kidnapped victims across the state, including in Gusau, Maradun and Kauran Namoda, local government area,” he said.

These achievements, the governor said, are testimony of the effectiveness of the ongoing military operations in the state.
