Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu through her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative, has empowered women entrepreneurs in the All Progressives Congress (APC) with fabrics in commercial quantities to support their businesses.
The wife of Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, donated the items on her behalf at the APC national secretariat in Abuja yesterday.
In her remarks, Mrs Shettima said the initiative was aimed to touch those at the grassroots in furtherance of the first lady’s belief in empowering women and fostering inclusive economic growth.
“We should gather enough courage and be our sisters’ keepers. No matter what, let us appreciate one another. We all know it is easy to destroy but very difficult to build. To our president, I believe he is also a gender friendly person like the first lady. He has given so many opportunities to women as ministers and head of MDAs in his government.
“Sincerely, the little present we came with to support our APC women leaders who are into fabrics business . Probably, the quantity might not be to your expectations but I urge you to take it in good faith and to assure you that more programmes are on the way,” she said.
In his remarks, the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, called for the promotion of financial inclusiveness for women in politics to give them their pride of place in the polity.
He told women that: “What remains is for you to be honest, to be transparent, to be committed, and to be nationalistic so that the wrappers will go to the target audience.”
