Manchester City defeated West Ham on Sunday to win the 2023-24 Premier League title and inflict misery on Arsenal for the second season in a row.
Arsenal and City both had the chance to clinch the trophy on the final day of the top-flight season but the Gunners needed Pep Guardiola’s side to drop points against West Ham and couple that with victory over Everton at the Emirates.
City did not flinch, though, as they beat the Hammers 3-1 at the Etihad to become champions of England for the sixth time in seven seasons and make history as the first team to win four English top-flight titles in a row.
Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday but it was not enough as they painfully missed out on the Premier League trophy for the second successive season.
City got off to the perfect start as Phil Foden smashed home from 18 yards with just two minutes on the clock with his strike flying past Alphonse Areola into the top corner.
Foden then grabbed his second as Erling Haaland found Jeremy Doku down the left, who beat his man and put the ball into the box for the Premier League Player of the Year to sweep home close to the penalty spot.
Things got worse for Arsenal as they then fell behind 1-0 to Everton at the Emirates after Idrissa Gueye’s free-kick took a huge deflection off Declan Rice and flied into the far top corner.

The Gunners pulled level shortly after, though, as Martin Odegaard’s cutback found Takehiro Tomiyasu from around 16 yards out as he drilled his effort past Jordan Pickford.
More drama followed as West Ham pulled one back against City thanks to a bicycle kick from Mohammed Kudus – arguably one of the best goals of the season – and you could hear a pin drop at the Etihad as celebrations turned into a more tense atmosphere, knowing one more West Ham goal could cost them.
In the second half, though, Rodri restored City’s two-goal cushion from 20 yards, much to the relief of the home fans, with the Spaniard side-footing beyond West Ham goalkeeper Areola following a cutback from Bernardo Silva.

Arsenal then took the lead against Everton in the 89th minute thanks to Kai Havertz but it didn’t mean anything due to City’s lead over West Ham.
No more goals followed in either game which confirmed City as English champions for the 10th time in the club’s history.
It means that Arsenal have finished the season with only the Community Shield to add to their trophy cabinet, which they clinched back in August.
