A police officer has been shot by a crossbow and a man has been stabbed in a ‘serious assault and weapons incident’ in High Wycombe.
Armed officers descended on the village of Downley at around 6pm yesterday following reports of a 54-year-old man armed with a crossbow.
When they arrived, the man shot an officer in the leg.
He was then shot by police and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and is currently under police supervision in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

A man in his 60s was also taken to hospital after suffering a stab wound at the scene, but has since been discharged.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Bucks Free Press: ‘There was a lot of trouble on Wednesday night. It was very loud. Not sure what happened but it all quietened down after an hour or so.
‘Apparently this evening he got into another argument with a neighbour – and there was some incident regarding a car.
‘I don’t know much else but it sounds like after the confrontation with the neighbour, he appeared with a crossbow and was walking around being a bit of a menace.
‘Police arrived and he’s shot one in the leg, before being shot himself by armed police.’
Assistant Chief Constable Tim Metcalfe, from Thames Valley Police, said: ‘Police officers attended and one was shot in the leg with a crossbow. He was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.
‘Our thoughts are with the injured officer and we are doing everything to support him and his colleagues, as well as all others affected by the incident within the force.

‘The assault victim has also been taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Our thoughts are with him as well.’
He added: ‘A 54-year-old man from High Wycombe has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
‘He has also been taken to hospital under police supervision with potentially life-changing injuries, having been shot by an armed police officer during the incident.
‘We are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident at this time.’
