The Zamfara State House of Assembly has approved a six-month extension of the tenure for sole administrators of the state’s local government councils.
The extension followed the presentation of a report by the special committee mandated to screen the fourteen local government councils’ sole administrators, which was chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi, before their confirmation.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the House, Comrade Bello Madaro Kurya and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital.
According to the statement, all the 14 local government interim administrators appeared before the committee during the screening excercise.
Recall that on April 24, 2024, Governor Dauda Lawal sent a message through the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Malam Abubakar M Nakwada, seeking the House to confirm local government interim administrators for another six months as required by the law.
“That necessitated the House under the Speakership of Rt. Hon. Bi’yaminu Ismail Moriki to invite all the Council Interim Administrators for cross-examination to ensure justice and fairness in the confirmation process,” the statement added.
The statement added that after an extensive deliberation, the Speaker announced that, with the unanimous consent of the entire honourable members, the House has approved and confirmed the extension of 14 local government interim administrators for another six months as requested by the State Governor, Dauda Lawal.
Speaker Moriki charged all the council bosses to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring good and quality leadership in their various local government areas.
