A 30-year-old has been arrested after a man was filmed running after policewith a chainsaw.

Footage shows a man holding a power tool sprints down the residential street on Glasgow Road in Paisley behind an officer in a high vis vest on Monday.

Two officers were injured and were treated by paramedics.

The street was locked down and people were urged to avoid the area ‘following a disturbance’.

Police Scotland said: ‘Around 1pm on Monday, 6 May, 2024, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision involving a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley.

Two officers were injured and were treated by paramedics.

‘A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

‘There is no wider risk to the public and officers remain at the scene while enquires are ongoing.

The street was locked down and people were urged to avoid the area

‘Glasgow Road was closed between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue while investigations were carried out and fully reopened around 7pm.’

Assistant Chief constable Steve Johnson said: ‘Incredibly proud and impressed by the responses from colleagues to incidents across the west of Scotland.

‘Day in, day out they show their true colours, heroism and professionalism.

‘Thanks to all colleagues involved.’
