The Assistant Controller of Corrections in Niger State Correctional Centre Minna, ACC Abdulrahman Ibrahim Gegele, abducted by unknown gunmen has regained his freedom.
The ACC was kidnapped along Ilorin- Minna road on April 17 2024.
The correctional centre in a statement to newsmen in Minna signed by the Public Relations Officer CSC Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu said Abdulrahman regained his freedom on Wednesday morning.
He explained that “the officer reunited with his family in the early hours of today, Wednesday, 1st May 2024 after spending almost two weeks in the kidnappers’ den.”
“The Senior officer was able to escape in a bold move when the military engaged the bandits in a heavy gun duel at their camp within a forest around Kontagora axis on Sunday, 28th April 2024.”
Recall the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N25m when they made contact with the family a day after he was kidnapped.on April 17.
It further added, “The Controller of Corrections, Nigerian correctional service, Niger State Command, Alhaji Mohammed Hamisu on behalf of the officers and men of the command, thanked the Controller General of Correctional Service, Alhaji Haliru Nababa, the Nigerian military, DSS, sister security agencies, Niger State Government, the Media and other well wishers for their efforts, support and prayers for the officer’s safe release”.
