Woman arrested for murder after child dies in ‘medical emergency’

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a child.

The incident unfolded in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a ‘medical emergency’ at Juniper Square, just after 4.40pm.

The child was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Hertfordshire Police said: ‘Officers were called to an address in Juniper Square in Hemel Hempstead at 4.40pm yesterday to assist with a medical emergency.

‘A child was taken to hospital for emergency treatment but unfortunately died a short time later.

‘A 29 year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and an investigation is now underway by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.

‘She remains in police custody at this time.’
