The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Sobomabo Jackrich, the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement, NRM, in the 2023 general elections.
According to the state command, the arrest was carried out by a sister security agency.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed this in a statement to journalists on Monday, stating that two individuals lost their lives during the operation, which took place in Degema Local Government Area of the state.
Earlier, there was a report that Jackrich had been taken away by individuals wearing military uniforms.
The operation was said to have lasted for hours, and resulted in the deaths of two aides to the NRM governorship candidate, Tamunoiminabo and Sincere Jackrich.
George Zua, an aide to Jackrich, claimed the bodies were subsequently removed from the scene by the assailants.
SP Iringe-Koko stated that the security agency responsible for the operation is expected to transfer the case file to the police for further investigation.
