Anyone who bought Vimto fizzy drink recently has been warned to check the label, as it could be a risk to them.
Some 500ml bottles of the popular drink have been labelled incorrectly to say they have ‘no added sugar’ when in fact they are the full sugar version.
For people who need to control their sugar intake carefully, such as those with diabetes, this could be dangerous.
The affected batch was sold at Farmfoods, Poundland, Heron Foods, B&M and Home Bargains.
Anyone who has purchased the product can take it back to the shop they bought it from for a full refund, the company said.
An easy way to check if your bottle of Vimto is affected is to compare the colour of the bottle cap with the label.
The product recall notice for affected bottles of Vimto
All products with purple caps contain added sugar, even if the label says it does not.
In a recall notice, a company spokesperson said: ‘No other Vimto variants are affected. Thank you for your co-operation’
The UK’s Food Standards Agency said: ‘Nichols plc is recalling Vimto Original 500ml due to bottles being labelled with a ‘No Added Sugar’ statement. The product within the bottles contains added sugar.
‘This makes the product a potential risk to consumers who need to manage their sugar intake.
‘If you have bought the above products and need to manage your sugar intake, please do not drink them.’
