A woman has complained after allegedly being left with red and swollen eyes after a five-hour lash appointment during which she was also scolded for using the bathroom.

Julie Turney says she demanded a refund after her treatment by the beautician who she found online.

In messages exchanged after the appointment, Turney says she was berated for adding to the technician’s water bill by using the toilet twice during the session.

The crime prevention officer, who is from Wallington, Surrey, said: ‘I saw a post on Facebook from a woman doing a special offer on lashes.

‘I wasn’t going to get them done but was going out. Stupidly I didn’t research her. I just saw it and thought “that sounds good, what could possibly go wrong?”

‘She said she’d been a lash technician for three years and I thought she must be experienced so I booked in with her. My eyes were really streaming throughout the application and I thought “I’m sure I don’t normally tear up this much.”

‘It felt fine when she was putting them on, apart from my eyes were streaming. She gave me the mirror when we were finished and I said “what have you given me?” and she said “Russians” and I said “but I asked for classics”.

‘They were only £20, I was really stupid for going to her. I wasn’t aware how long I was there for, I got in my car and realised I was there for nearly five hours.’

Over the next few days Julie claims to have been left in terrible pain by the procedure.

She said: ‘The next day I went round my friend’s because my eyes were awful, I was in agony.

‘My friend said “oh my god they look awful”. It was like I had grit in my eyes, there were just lumps and lumps of glue. They looked like spider legs, they were so thick and long. They were horrendous, just awful.

‘I was in agony for four days, all my friends were absolutely shocked.

‘I had 24-hour discomfort. She’d dug my natural lashes into my eye. I had problems at work seeing the computer – I had blurry vision. I sent a picture of them to the lash technician and said they need removing. She said she’d buy some remover because she doesn’t stock it.

‘She sent me a message to say she can’t get the remover and suggested I go elsewhere and have them taken off by another lash tech which I did. I asked her to pay for them to be taken off and she said she’ll give me 50% of the money back and I said “that’s not good enough”.’

Julie added the experience had made her more cautious, as well as wanting to ‘spread awareness of rogue beauticians like this.’
