Officials have urged football fans to be on high alert after the recent terrorism attack in Moscow raised ‘dangers to a new level.’
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser made the comments just 75 days ahead of the Euro 2024 kickoff in Germany.
She said: ‘We are polling the forces of the security authorities even more strongly for the Euros and are preparing for all possible dangers.
‘This is necessary to protect this major international event in the best possible way.
‘The security of the tournament is paramount.’
Her statements come just a week after four gunmen stormed the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, killing at least 143 and injuring dozens more before burning the venue to the ground.
The attack has since been claimed by Afghanistan-based ISIS affiliate, IS-K.

The measures mentioned by Faesar include temporary closures of Germany’s borders and a ramping up of checks on those coming into the country.
British police will also be present in Germany to assist with security.
Each team base, including the complex where the England stars are due to stay, will be surrounded by a ring of steel.
Wives and other family members will also be subject to additional protective measures.

Speaking with The Sun, terrorism expert Neil Doyle said: ‘Euro 2024 represents a major target for groups looking to mount mass casualty attacks for revenge and global headlines.
‘The use of drones will be a major concern as they have become a new feature of modern warfare, as seen in Ukraine.’
The newspaper also quotes a UK government spokesperson as saying: ‘Football fans all over the country will be looking forward to a summer of football.
