Peter and Margaret Deeley
A couple who died in a car crash in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, have been named by police as Peter and Margaret Deeley.
A white Suzuki is believed to have been struck by a grey Range Rover at the Barugh Green crossroad junction at 2pm yesterday.
Peter, 75 and Margaret, 85, died at the scene.
A man, 65, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains released on police bail.
After police shared the news on Facebook, locals who knew the couple paid tribute.
Laura Robinson said: ‘My mum was in the second car back at the lights and saw the accident just after it’d happened.
‘Very scary to think that had she been a few minutes earlier it could have been her! Thoughts are with the families of those involved.’
Sally Taylor said: ‘Devastating for the family. Two lives taken totally unnecessary.’
Val Mills added: ‘RIP – an absolutely tragic and horrific accident. It should never have happened.’
Police said: ‘Officers are still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam of the vehicles involved or any information that can assist with their inquiry.’
