Two dead and seven rushed to hospital after huge crash

Two people have been killed and seven seriously injured in a horrific crash involving at least five vehicles.

The pile-up happened at about 2pm yesterday at a crossroads in Yorkshire.

Photos from the scene show five cars seriously damaged from impact, with debris strewn on the road including a torn-off car door.

Two people died on impact, while those injured were taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

The junction in Barnsley – which includes Cawthorne Road, Barugh Green Road and High Common Road – was closed after the accident.

People were advised to avoid the area and plan alternative routes.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: ‘We were called at 2pm on March 23 to reports of a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles, at the Barugh Green crossroad junction in Barnsley.

‘Officers are currently attending alongside the fire and ambulance services.

‘Two people have sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.

‘A further seven people are receiving hospital treatment, where their injuries are serious, but not thought to be life-threatening.’
