Erik ten Hag has been given no formal guarantee that he will remain at Manchester United next season and Sir Dave Brailsford is continuing ‘due diligence’ over replacing the Dutchman.
Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 FA Cup sixth round win against Liverpool on Sunday kept Ten Hag’s hopes of finishing his second season in charge with a trophy alive.
But United are sixth in the Premier League and are outsiders to qualify for the Champions League.
United finished bottom of their Champions League group, and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the fourth round.
Ten Hag has been part of discussions with United’s new board since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 27.7% stake in the club was confirmed.

INEOS, fronted by Ratcliffe, have taken over control of football operations at the club and that’s seen Sir Dave Brailsford take on an important role at the club alongside Jean-Claude Blanc.
While Ten Hag is adamant that no decision has been made over his future, ESPN say Brailsford is continuing ‘due diligence’ over his position and has sounded out potential replacements.
United would rather not sack Ten Hag, given doing so would cost the club over £10m.
They are already in a difficult financial situation, and were unable to sign a striker in January due to their Financial Fair Play limitations.
But Ratcliffe is determined to hit the ground running at Old Trafford and will not hesitate to get rid of Ten Hag if he feels it’s the right thing to do.
