Neighbours of a man who’s spent a quarter of a million pounds building extensions to his garden shed say they’ve been forced to move by the development.

The council approved plans by Gurnam Singh, 40, to build a family gym in the back garden of his semi-detached house on a quiet estate in Thurmaston outside of Leicester.

Local residents have described the 13ft development as being the ‘size of a small house’, an ‘eyesore’ and ‘monstrous’.

Fully equipped with running water, neighbours are concerned it may also in turn be used as a living space.

Two people have told MailOnline they are planning to sell their homes, where they’ve lived for between 14 and 25 years, in anticipation of the completed structure blocking sunlight and infringing on their privacy.’

One person said: ‘It is a complete eyesore and it has devalued my house. Even the parish council objected and couldn’t believe it got through.’

The other person added: ‘I feel like I’m being driven out because of it.

One person claims the development has devalued their own home, while another says it’s the council’s fault for allowing the plans to go ahead in the first place (Picture: MailOnline)

Gurnam Singh meanwhile claims to have done nothing wrong being as the plans were indeed approved by local authorities (Picture: MailOnline)

‘I blame the owners, I blame the council. The development is a disgrace and should never have been allowed, full stop.

‘I have lived here 25 years and now I’m going to sell up, if I can get anyone to buy the place now.

Mr Singh is himself a builder and his company is managing construction at the property, which he bought with his wife last year with plans to turn it into the family’s ‘dream home’ (Picture: MailOnline)

‘The planning authority didn’t even bother telling me and others that it had been approved.

‘If I wanted to live in a built up area I would have bought a house in the city.’
