North West has announced her debut album, Elementary School Dropout, at only 10 years old.
The ultimate nepo baby and eldest child of Kim Kardashian, 43, and Kanye West, 46, has stirred controversy with the name of the upcoming project – as some fans are speculating that North is following in her famous dad’s footsteps and dropping out of school, against her mother’s wishes.
North made a rare appearance at a listening event for Kanye’s Vultures 2 album, in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday.
She appeared in the spotlight with Kanye, who had his face concealed under a mask, and took the opportunity to announce her musical ambitions.
‘I’ve been working on an album…’ the youngster began, prompting an eruption of cheers and applause from the audience.
Continuing, she revealed that the forthcoming collection is titled Elementary School Dropout, before exiting the stage to thunderous applause.
The title is an obvious reference to Kanye’s beloved 2004 album The College Dropout – the project skyrocketed the rapper to stardom, marking his transition from producer to performer, and is still considered among the best hip-hop albums of all time.
It was inspired by then-20-year-old Kanye’s decision to drop out of Chicago State University and pursue a career as a musician, upsetting his mother who worked as a professor there.
The backstory behind the famous project has caused fans to speculate that perhaps North is planning to drop out of school herself and upset her mother, inspiring the name.

Many are now speculating that Kanye has encouraged his oldest daughter to leave school and start making music, hence the name of her new album.
Unpacking the title on social media, Viviana tweeted: ‘I’m praying she didn’t actually drop out of elementary school.’
Don Isley replied: ‘So North West dropping an album called Elementary School Drop-Out! Hey I think it’s cool she wanna do music. It’s just… How is this a good idea to call an album that? [sic].’

The album isn’t North’s first foray into the music business, as she recently appeared on Kanye’s Talking, a track on Vultures 1.
She is officially credited as a featured artist on the song and her voice can be heard distinctly throughout.
She can be heard rapping: ‘We gonna take over the year for another year. It’s your bestie, Miss, Miss Westie. Don’t try and test me, it’s gonna get messy.’
Talking debuted and peaked at No. 30 on the Hot 100 the week that Vultures 1 arrived at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Kim and Kanye have often made headlines for their very public co-parenting disagreements as Kanye’s behaviour has grown more and more erratic in recent years.
While the famous pair are no longer together, they share four children – North, 10, Saint, eight, Psalm, six, and Chicago, four.
Kanye has repeatedly called Kim out for her parenting decisions on social media, notably insisting she forbids North from using TikTok.
Most recently, he took to Instagram, calling for the Kardashians star to take ‘his kids’ out of their school.

The rapper wrote: ‘Kim take my kids out of Sierra Canyon now it’s a fake school for celebrities that are used by “the system.”‘
Ye continued: ‘At this point everybody knows what “the system” is code word for, I was removed from my dad by the system and the system removed me from my children.
‘When the system drafts athletes they avoid working with those who have their father in their life because they are harder to manipulate. My two oldest know they daddy is.’

While Kim has not publicly responded to any of Kanye’s recent tirades, a source told TMZ that she ‘is frustrated with his constant public attacks and naming of the school because it creates safety and security concerns each and every time for their children.’
She is also said to be frustrated that Kanye told their children that ‘school isn’t necessary,’ according to the insider.
While it remains unclear when – or if – North’s album will come out, we can only wait and see what Kim has to say about her free-spirited daughter’s music dreams.
