A police officer who appeared on the BBC’s Wanted Down Under died after falling and cutting his neck at his engagement party.

Liam Trimmer, 29, left the UK for Australia as a teenager before appearing on the BBC One police show, filmed just a year later.

On the show he gave a Scottish teenager, aspiring to join the police, advice on life in Australia before they migrated, MailOnline reported.

Now the constable has died after suffering a fatal neck injury at a party his fiancé organised to announce their engagement to friends and family on Sunday, March 10.

The ‘extraordinary’ young man suffered massive bleeding after cutting the carotid artery in his neck when he slipped and fell at a property in Western Australia.

People attending the party tried to save Liam but they were unable to stop the bleeding, according to Western Australia Police Commissioner Col Blanch.

Liam died before emergency services arrived.

Blanch told 9 News Perth: ‘Everything was done to try and save him, but it wasn’t to be and I know everyone that was involved is really, really hurting at the moment.

‘I think they wish they could just wake up from this nightmare.’

It is not yet clear how Liam suffered the fatal neck wound and the circumstances will be investigated at an inquest.

There will be a post-mortem examination on Liam’s body and the coroner is expected to make a statement regarding his death in a matter of days.

Liam had moved to the state of Western Australia in 2013 when he was a teenager.

He graduated from Australia’s Joondalup Police Academy before relocating to the city of Kalgoorlie, 370 miles east of Perth, in 2017.

The ‘very capable, confident’ man became a prominent member of the community, playing for the local rugby team and joining the police force’s tactical response group.

Liam’s ‘tragic’ death prompted police colleagues, politicians and the local community to mourn and commemorate this ‘valued member of the blue family’.

Blanch said: ‘This extraordinary officer loved helping the community and was a fine example of WA policing and it’s just such a tragedy.

‘(He was) a very, very confident, capable young man with his whole life ahead of him, and that’s how sad this is.

‘It’s important now for us to wrap around each other, to lean on each other.
