A woman lost consciousness several times after she was whacked in the face with a handbag at a nightclub in Nottingham.

The 18-year-old had been trying to break up a fight inside the busy Rock City club on the city’s Talbot Street when she was attacked by another woman.

She received a ‘heavy blow to the head’, police said, leaving a nasty gash which required stitches.

Officers were called to the club following the assault, which took place at around 2.45am on February 23.

Nottinghamshire Police have now launched a search for a woman they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.

The force released two images of the woman, who is wearing a white playsuit and carrying a black handbag beneath her shoulder.

They have also appealed for witnesses.

Chief Inspector Karl Thomas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said the attack was ‘not acceptable’.

He said: ‘We would urge anyone who saw what happened, or who recognises the woman in these pictures, to get in touch with us immediately.

‘The nightclub would’ve still been busy at the time, so we do believe multiple people will have seen this attack take place.

‘A woman had to be taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining a nasty blow to the head during this incident.’
