Gary Neville has backed Manchester City to earn a 2-1 victory over their title rivals Liverpool and predicts an in-form Phil Foden will score the winner at Anfield.
City, last year’s treble winners, find themselves two points adrift of top-of-the-table Arsenal in third, though have a game in hand over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners – who survived a scare to beat Brentford earlier this weekend.
An injury-hit Liverpool, meanwhile, sit second and would go two points clear at the top should they beat Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions, with Jurgen Klopp’s men chasing a historic quadruple this season.
The points were shared in the reverse fixture between the two heavyweight teams back in November, with Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelling out Erling Haaland’s opener at the Etihad, but Sky Sports pundits Neville and Carragher both expect a result on Merseyside.
‘I’m gonna go 2-1 to City,’ former Manchester United right-back Neville told Liverpool’s official X account when asked for a score prediction.
‘One thing I do hope is there is a winner. I don’t want a draw, I’m not into those draws in these big games.
‘I’ve got a feeling today that Phil Foden will score the winner.’
Neville – a Red Devil through and through – hopes to see United’s two bitter rivals to lose out to Arsenal in this season’s intriguing title race, though commended Liverpool on their ‘unbelievable’ campaign.
‘I want Arsenal to win the league out of the three teams, by the way. I certainly don’t want Liverpool or City to win it,’ the ex-England defender added.
‘I actually do think Manchester City are going to win today and that’s not born out of any anti-Liverpool, Gary Neville is a Red and all that sort of stuff… I just feel today that this could be one step too far for Liverpool.
‘They’ve been unbelievable this season to stay in the title race.’

Carragher, meanwhile, backed Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah to get on the scoresheet in a Liverpool victory over the defending champions.
‘I’m gonna go 2-1 Liverpool,’ the former Liverpool centre-back said.
‘I don’t see any team keeping a clean sheet and there is no way the power of Anfield won’t suck the ball in.
‘Darwin Nunez is going to score first. I’ll go Darwin Nunez with the first one, City to make it 1-1 and the Egyptian King [Mohamed Salah] to score the winner.’
