Liverpool have received a major boost ahead of their showdown with Manchester City on Sunday with the return of Mohamed Salah to first team training.

The Egyptian has been struggling with a hamstring strain, which kept him out of wins against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Luton.

Liverpool host City at Anfield on Sunday, when they can extend their lead over the champions to four points with a victory against Pep Guardiola’s side.

City beat rivals Manchester United last Sunday to close the gap to a point, and few would bet against the treble winners if they left Anfield with all three points.

In order for that not to happen, Liverpool will need some of their injured stars back and none more so than Salah.

The winger has been in sensational form this season, scoring 19 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool face Sparta Prague on Thursday in the last-32 of the Europa League before hosting City on Sunday.

It’s possible that Salah could feature then, but it’s unlikely he will be risked from the start.

Alisson Becker remains sidelined and is not expected back until mid-April.
