More than a year after the closure of the famous Glory Hole in Lincoln, new photos show repair work is finally beginning.

The historic riverside attraction in Lincoln is estimated to cost £80,000 to repair after it was deemed unsafe last year.

But due to bad weather and permissions needed from the Canals and River Trust and Environment Agency, the repair works were delayed.

A jetty is set to be installed to help the footway become structurally sound after a section close to the renowned Glory Hole partially collapsed.

Lincolnshire County Council said limited access to the site resulted in delays, as they had to receive permissions before beginning work.

But the construction is sure to be a cause for celebration for local businesses, who shared their frustrations over the lengthy closure.

Salon owner Roger Baldam-Lucas told Lincolnshire Live the time taken has been ‘ridiculous’.

He said: ‘It’s been a long time and it feels like delay tactics. I’m totally frustrated; it feels like they’re just padding it out until they get funding.

‘I’m losing money, I’ve had stress with this, I’ve had inconvenience… it’s not through any fault of my own, but that of the council.’

Councillor Richard Davies previously said in response to local businesses concerns: ‘I find it puzzling that these comments are being made and that funding is being questioned in this way.

‘I can categorically say that we are not delaying any works because of money, that is a ridiculous thing to suggest.’

In late November last year, one man had to be rescued from Lincoln’s Glory Hole after his boat got stuck and caused ‘utter chaos’.

Ray Fisher was attempting to use the Glory Hole on his boat but the current was too strong.
