Former president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev seems to be taking a leaf out of North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un’s book.

Dressed in blue Mao-collared suit – like it came straight from the elder statesmen costume department – the Kremlin mouthpiece stood up in front of hundreds of people, declaring: ‘Ukraine is, of course, Russia.’

By all accounts, his speech at the World Youth Festival in Sirius, in the Krasnodar region, was one of his most unhinged to date – an accomplishment considering the politician’s past remarks about nuclear weapons.

An ally to Vladimir Putin, he began by portraying Germany’s leader Olaf Scholz – who he nicknames the ‘Liverwurst Chancellor’ – as a weakling who can be easily be overruled by his military.

The Russia president seems to be increasingly using Medvedev to spread his views to the world.

This follows a humiliating leak to Russian state media of an audiotape of German air force commanders discussing how its long-range weapons might be used by Ukraine to destroy the Kerch Bridge linking the mainland to the annexed Crimean peninsula.

The recording on a non-encrypted conference call also alleged that the UK, France and the US keep soldiers in Ukraine to help operate Western weapons systems.

This has been denied by these Western countries, but the leaked call has triggered a major security probe in Germany.

Medvedev stood in front of a screen with a quote by Putin, reiterating his leader’s imperial ambitions that ‘Russia has no borders.’

The deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council stressed that Ukraine was part of Russia and ruled out peace talks with the current Ukrainian leadership.

The politician boasted about his country’s ‘special military operation’ as he stood in front of a map, showing the supposed ‘rightful’ borders of Russia.

Ukraine can be see reduced to the Kyiv region, while seven regions to the west of the Ukrainian capital are annexed by Nato member Poland and three others by Hungary and Romania.

Medvedev – previously the longest serving prime minister in modern history as well as president for four years – said: ‘We don’t need another state’s land – but we would never give up on what is ours.

‘The history of our state has proven this multiple times.

‘I want to remind about one fact. Very soon it will be 210 years since Paris was taken by Russian troops.

‘That time we cleaned up Europe, changed its authorities to those  that suited us – then went back home with our flags held high.’
