Vladimir Putin is now waging a war on the allies of his greatest enemy Alexei Navalny, starting with his lawyer.

Vasily Dubkov accompanied the mum of the late opposition leader to the prison colony in Siberia where her son’s body was kept.

For days, he lobbied for the release until authorities finally handed him over on Saturday.

Dubkov has now himself become a victim of the Kremlin’s regime after his client was ‘killed’ behind bars.

The lawyer was detained in Moscow earlier today on administrative charges of disorderly conduct, newspaper Novaya Gazeta Europe reported.

He has been taken to the Schcherbinksky district police station, according to the Sota media outlet.

Three of Navalny’s lawyers were jailed in October 2023 on accusations related to the critic’s groups being banned as ‘extremist’. Two others have since fled Russia.

Kira Yarmysh, Navalny’s spokesperson, confirmed his remains were handed over in a statement on X.

‘Alexey’s body was handed over to his mother. Many thanks to all those who demanded this with us,’ she said.

Lyudmila Ivanovna is still in Salekhard. The funeral is still pending.

‘We do not know if the authorities will interfere to carry it out as the family wants and as Alexey deserves. We will inform you as soon as there is news.’
