A son has been banned for speaking to his mum three years after he viciously attacked her on New Year’s Eve.
Bryan Williamson strangled his mum and left her with a severe blow to the head as he pinned her to the ground and shouted, ‘I don’t give a damn you are my mother’.
He then assaulted a police officer as he was arrested on Beechwood Avenue, Grimsby.
Celine Kart, prosecuting, said Williamson tried to grab house keys from his mum to cut off a tag he was wearing as they were both walking to her home.
Williamson’s behaviour became erratic and abusive, and he launched the violent assault near her home.
His mum fell over and banged her head on a wall, causing a deep cut, Grimsby crown court heard.
Williamson pinned her to the ground, putting pressure on her neck and became threatening.
He then shouted: ‘I don’t give a damn you are my mother.’
When police officers arrived, Williamson tried to headbutt arresting officer PC Callum Hall.
Dale Brook, defending, said Williamson had a traumatic upbringing and mental health issues.
Sentencing Williamson, Recorder Geraldine Kelly called the attack ‘despicable’.
She said: ‘It must have broken her heart. And the assault on PC Callum Hall is inexcusable.
‘You say you can’t remember because you got yourself so drunk you had to be taken to hospital.
‘Sadly, your victims can remember your behaviour.’
Williamson was jailed for a total of 21 months and received a three year Restraining Order, banning him for direct or indirect contact with the mother.
