Erik ten Hag names three Man Utd players he is backing to fill goal scoring void after Rasmus Hojlund injury

Erik ten Hag insists Rasmus Hojlund‘s injury blow will not derail Manchester United’s season and is confident Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay can replace his goals.

Hojlund has been in sensational form in 2024 with his performances reigniting United’s top four hopes after a difficult start to his first season in England.

Despite scoring five in the Champions League, The Denmark international waited until 27 December to score his first Premier League goal.

The striker has scored in every game he has played in since – seven goals in his last six appearances – including a brace against Luton Town last Sunday.

United however were dealt a major blow on Friday after it was confirmed Hojlund will miss up to three weeks of action with a muscle injury.

Hojlund had soared to the top of United’s goal scoring charts in recent weeks with 13. Scott McTominay is second with eight with Fernandes and Garnacho chipping in with seven apiece.

While ten Hag will be hopeful of Marcus Rashford also rediscovering the form that saw him score 30 times last season, he believes that trio can help fill the void left by Hojlund’s absence up front.

‘Garnacho is scoring a lot of goals – seven,’ Ten Hag said. ‘Rashy [Rashford] is capable, but he scores [only] five [so far]. In our last games, the frontline is an absolute threat, they score [so] is it Rasmus Højlund only?

‘No, it’s Garnacho, also Rashford, Scott McTominay. Bruno can score. What gives me the confidence is that in autumn the frontline wasn’t scoring, they were not even a threat.

‘At this moment they are in very good form and a threat continually. [Højlund] has lately been very important. But the main man? I don’t see it that way.”

Omari Forson could come into replace Hojlund and lead United’s attack on Saturday against Fulham.

The 19-year-old has featured alongside Rashford and Garnacho in a front three during United’s training sessions this week.
