‘I woke up, I grabbed one of the kitchen knives and I went to her room… I killed her.’
This is what Derek Rosa, 13, calmly told the Hialeah Police Department in the Florida city of the same name, according to video doorbell camera footage.
A Ring camera captured the moment Rosa was on the phone with the 911 operator as he told her: ‘She’s dead, miss.’
‘I see officers, do I leave? Do I leave my house?’ he later asked, adding that he has ‘blood all over my hands’.
‘No, do not leave, do not leave,’ the dispatcher replied.
Rosa, who at the time was an eighth grader at iMater Academy, is accused by police of stabbing Irina Garcia, 37, up to 46 times on October 12.

Ring recordings obtained by NBC6 show the son entering the apartment to find his mum sitting in a chair holding her newborn.
‘Why do you always tell me “don’t run?”‘ he asked her in Spanish.
It would be only moments after this exchange that Rosa fatally stabbed Garcia, detectives and prosecutors say.
Afterwards, he phoned an online friend and sent them three photographs – including two of his mother and a selfie of himself with what appears to be blood on his hands, the force said.

Only half an hour later, Rosa stood over her while she appeared to sleep. The baby, Rosa’s half-sister, was unharmed.

Rosa is being charged as an adult and is currently being held at the Metro West Detention Center.
At a Tuesday hearing, his attorneys told the Miami-Dade courtroom that they were not ready for trial as they needed more evidence from the state’s attorney’s office.
Prosecutors, however, are ready to go. Rosa has pleaded not guilty and is set for a status hearing on April 17.
