The Ekiti State Government has issued a health advisory to citizens ahead of today’s final match of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The 2023 AFCON final between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire is expected to begin by 9 pm Nigerian time on Sunday.
No fewer than five persons died during Wednesday’s tension-soaked game.
Following the aftermath of Nigeria’s victory against South Africa in the semifinal on Wednesday, the Ekiti government warned citizens with heart issues to stay away from watching the match.
A statement issued by Dr Oyebanji Filani, the state commissioner for Health and Human Services, on Sunday, stated: “While supporting the Super Eagles, be mindful of last week’s casualties and avoid watching live if you have heart issues.
“Ensure well-ventilated spaces, keep emergency drugs nearby, stay hydrated, manage emotions during tense moments, and maintain comfortable seating.
“Call the state emergency number on 112 or visit the nearest health facility for emergencies. Stay safe, and best wishes to the Super Eagles.”
