DBN, Womenovate Advocate Mitigating Climate Crisis

In commemoration of the 2024 World Education Day Conference, the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) has advocated for education as an indispensable tool to navigate and mitigate the complexities of climate change.
The event which was held in Abuja with the theme; “The Impact of Equation: Educational Resilience in the Face of Climate Change,” had an attendance of professionals, experts and stakeholders in the educational, sustainability and tech sector, was put together by Womenovate, a Female focused online learning platform globally offering women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) access to resources, training courses and Jobs from world-class universities and companies.
According to the sustainability specialist, Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), Lolade Awogbade, education is essential in helping to solve the challenges Nigeria faces with climate change as it creates the much-needed platform for creating awareness amongst all stakeholders.

She said; “Education can be used to raise awareness of climate change. It is the foundation that Nigeria needs to ensure sustainable development, and also provide the awareness that we need as Nigerians to come back to the very real challenges from climate issues that we face today.”

Also speaking, the chief executive officer, Womenovate, Mrs. Motunrayo Opayinka, said in a world where the effects of climate change are increasingly undeniable, the role of education in fostering resilience and sustainability has never been more critical.

According to her, the impact of environmental shifts is felt across the globe, affecting communities, ecosystems, and most importantly, the education sector.

National Project Officer (Education for Health and Well-being), UNESCO, Mr. Oladeji Adeyemi said education is a tool for achieving a lasting solution. However, he said there is a lot of fear in the country due to insecurity, saying that it has created psychological trauma for many people.
