Mikel Arteta has been delighted with Jorginho’s recent contributions for Arsenal but insists his long-term future is a matter for the club’s sporting director Edu to deal with.
The experienced Italy international joined the Gunners from Chelsea just over a year ago and has proved a shrewd addition.
Jorginho gave further evidence of his value to the squad with a man of the match display against Liverpool last weekend, as the Gunners roared back into the title race with a crucial 3-1 win.
With Thomas Partey still absent through injury, Jorginho’s experience is likely to be vital during the run-in, starting with Sunday’s trip to London rivals West Ham.
Whether the 32-year-old remains beyond the end of the season with his contract due to expire remains to be seen, but his manager is likely to be fighting his corner when it comes to pushing for a new deal.
Asked whether Jorginho’s contract would be extended, Arteta said: ‘I’m really happy with him, that’s all I can say. The contract situation is for Edu and the board to manage.
‘But his application, and the capacity he has in the big matches to affect the game is tremendous and he was really good against Liverpool again.’

‘I’m really happy with him, that’s all I can say,’ he reiterated when pushed as to whether he’d be keen to retain the midfielder’s services.
‘When we imagined what he could bring to the team and how we could make us better, he’s doing exactly that or even better.’
Arteta’s side, meanwhile, haven’t enjoyed their recent meetings with West Ham having gone three games without a win in all competitions, a trend Arsenal will be desperate to reverse in an attempt to build on the momentum they generated last week.

He said: ‘He’s (David Moyes)a really experienced manager who’s extremely good at getting the best out of his team.
‘He does it in various ways. He’s extremely good at managing the group, he’s a really competitive manager who understands when you get an edge in the game and wait for the moments in the game to punish you.
‘His trajectory and what he’s done at West Ham is incredible.’
