Mauricio Pochettino insists he retains the support of the Chelsea board, backed with a ‘very good text’ from owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali following the defeat to Wolves.

Days after being thrashed by Liverpool at Anfield, Chelsea shipped another four goals at home to Gary O’Neil’s side in a dismal defeat in front of their irate supporters on Sunday.

It was Chelsea’s 10th defeat in the league this season, falling behind Wolves in the table down to 11th. The Blues are now closer to the relegation zone than to the top four with ambitious hopes of returning to European football next season fading fast.

Chelsea fans booed and chanted the names of former owner Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho during Sunday’s latest defeat.

But Pochettino says he was given a vote of confidence from Boehly ahead a crucial FA Cup fourth round replay against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Pochettino explained he has ‘heard nothing’ to suggest he has lost the trust of the Chelsea owners.

‘I received a very good text after the game against Wolves from the owners. We’re all together in this,’ he said.

He continued: ‘Of course, it’s always a tough job. But at the same time it is an exciting project and a project that we know is difficult.

‘In this type of moment, we are living in a situation that is not nice, we can learn. It is a good opportunity to learn.

‘I told the players today in the meeting that I trust them more than ever. We really trust the players we have. We are going to face this moment and knowing we can move back and win games.’

Chelsea missed a string of opportunities to beat put the fourth round tie against Villa to bed at Stamford Bridge in late January.

‘It is true we played well in the game we played at Stamford Bridge [vs Villa],’ he continued.

‘In football it is like this, we cannot change the past, only we can affect the future. We told the players to be ready.

‘We need to assess our players and until tomorrow I do not want to decide the team because it is about assessing.’
