Thomas Tuchel considered rescuing huge transfer flop from Chelsea during January window

Thomas Tuchel considered an audacious bid for Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

The Ukraine international joined the Blues last January after Todd Boehly masterminded the audacious hijacking of the winger’s move to Arsenal.

Mudryk, however, has struggled badly at Stamford Bridge and has become the unfortunate poster boy of Chelsea’s scattergun transfer policy that has yielded little success.

The 23-year-old disappointed again in midweek against Liverpool and squandered a glorious chance to bring his side back into the game shortly after his half-time introduction, blasting the ball in the Anfield Road stand when unmarked just 10 yards from goal.

Bayern, meanwhile, were among the more active heavyweight European clubs during the winter window with Tuchel keen to strengthen his squad ahead of the second half of the season.

The German giants are not having it all their own way in the Bundesliga this term with unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen currently enjoying a two point lead at the top, while a Champions League last 16 tie against Lazio is on the horizon.

New arrivals in the shape of Eric Dier and Sacha Boey alleviated Tuchel’s defensive concerns while Bryan Zaragoza has added a level of versatility to his forward line.

According to the Athletic, Mudryk was briefly considered as an alternative to the Spaniard, but a deal with Granada was seen as a far easier transfer to engineer.

Chelsea face Wolves on Sunday and it remains to be seen whether or not Mudryk is restored to the starting line-up as the Blues look to bounce back from a 4-1 mauling.
