Erik ten Hag has warned his Manchester United squad to keep their discipline after drawing a line under the Marcus Rashford controversy that has engulfed the club over the last week.
Rashford missed training last Friday having reported in ill, sitting out of Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round win over Newport County as a result.
It later emerged the England international had enjoyed a boozy night out in Belfast on Thursday night, leaving the Northern Irish capital just hours before he was due to arrive at United’s training base at Carrington on Friday morning.
Rashford, who was fined two weeks’ wages over the incident, returned to training this week with the club insisting ‘the matter is now closed’ in a statement on Monday.
United are back in action away to Wolves on Thursday with Rashford expected to be included in ten Hag’s squad.
Speaking on Wednesday, the United boss reiterated what the club released earlier this week. ‘So he has taken responsibility and for the rest it’s an internal matter. Case closed,’ ten Hag said.
Asked if Rashford had shown a lack of respect, he added: ‘It’s nothing to do with that but as I said, let’s focus on the game, let’s move on.

‘The statement is clear and we have to focus on winning football games.’
Ten Hag held discussions with Rashford and his brother and adviser Dwaine Maynard on Monday.
In addition to this latest incident, the 26-year-old was reprimanded by his manager earlier this season after heading out for his birthday celebrations the same day United were thrashed by Manchester City at Old Trafford last October.

During ten Hag’s tenure, there have also been incidents where the issue of squad discipline has risen involving Cristiano Ronaldo and more recently Jadon Sancho, who was banished from the squad and sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund this month.
‘It’s nothing to do with that with me but, in football, you need discipline and that is on the pitch but also off the pitch,’ ten Hag said.
‘There is a line between, when every player, every pro knows this, what is required. We have to focus on winning football games and every top professional knows what is required.’
