As the FA Cup reaches the third round, Premier League and Championship sides enter the draw.
Reigning champions Manchester City will begin their defence of the trophy, with Pep Guardiola’s side hoping to win the competition for the eighth time and their third in the last six years.
Other lower-ranked clubs may not have such lofty ambitions but will hope their side can produce one of the infamous FA Cup giant killings, knocking out one of the bigger sides and going on a fairytale run to the later rounds.
Here is a run down of the teams still remaining in this year’s FA Cup, and the teams who have been knocked out.
The teams still in the 2023-24 FA Cup
With top-flight teams only entering the competition in the third round, all the big clubs are still left in the FA Cup.
There will be some early high-profile casualties this year, though, after several Premier League match-ups were drawn for the third round. The pick of the bunch will see Arsenal host Liverpool in a repeat of the 2001 final.
There are other Premier League match-ups as Tottenham face Burnley and Brentford take on Wolves. Newcastle, meanwhile, travel to arch-rivals Sunderland, who play in the Championship, in the first Tyne-Wear derby since 2016.

The lowest-ranked side left in the FA Cup is sixth-tier Maidstone United who beat League Two’s Barrow to reach this stage of the competition. They face in-form League One side Stevenage for a place in the fourth round.

The teams knocked out of the FA Cup 2023-24
Plenty of lower-league clubs have already exited the competition at earlier stages but, with the third round taking place this weekend, many top-flight clubs will be hoping to avoid a shock.

The third round has already got underway on Thursday in an all-Premier-League clash between Everton and Crystal Palace.
However, with the game ending 0-0 after a drab affair at Selhurst Park, neither side are yet to exit the competition and a replay will be needed to determine who will make it through to the fourth round.
