British mother and son ‘killed in avalanche while skiing off piste’

Mont Blanc, western Europe’s highest mountain

A mum and her son, believed to be from Britain, were killed in an avalanche on Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps.

The two skiers were swept to their deaths, while off-piste with their instructor on Thursday afternoon.

The incident is reported to have happened at around 3.40pm at the resort of St Gervais les Bains, at an altitude of 7,545ft.
