Rescuers in Gaza discovered a newborn alive near a mosque – in the midst of devastation – despite direct attacks from Israel.
Under intense bombardment, the boy, who is believed to be a day or two old, was rushed to Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in the Strip.
A healthcare worker was seen carrying the baby, wrapped tightly in a white cloth, not long after being found by first responders in the early hours of Tuesday.

Footage by Sky News showed the child suckling on his tiny fingers out of hunger, with his eyes still closed.
‘He was found by the driver of an ambulance this mourning, near a mosque where there were bombardments yesterday,’ a doctor at Al-Shifa said.
‘We do not know whether his family is alive or not. Now, the baby is in the hands of Dr Nasser Bulbul, Head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).’
His family’s whereabouts, or if they are alive or dead, remain unknown – the same situation for many other children in the enclave.
In Al-Shifa, staff are looking after four newborns whose family members are killed or missing, despite being hugely overwhelmed by the growing number of injured desperate for medical help.

Pregnant women living in a state of terror as Israeli bombardments around them intensify are bearing the brunt of the conflict.
According to the United Nations Population Fund in Palestine, there are 50,000 expectant mums in the Gaza Strip who are unable to obtain basic health services.
More than 180 of them are giving birth every day, the World Health Organisation warned.
At least 15% of them are likely to suffer pregnancy or birth-related complications and need additional medical care.

With 14 hospitals and 45 primary health care centres closed, women are having to give birth in shelters, in their homes, in the streets amid mountains of rubble.
Those fortunate enough to be making it to a healthcare facilities face worsening sanitation and the rising risk of infection and medical complications.
Hospitals across the Palestinian territory also warn that fuel supplies are running dry amid the total blockade.
Once the generators stop, newborn babies dependent on electric incubators for survival could die within minutes.
