Joel Glazer is set to keep hold of a significant say over sporting matters at Manchester United after Jim Ratcliffe completes his minority investment deal.

Ratcliffe is expected to complete a purchase of 25 per cent of the club for around £1.3bn, with the Ineos CEO to join a newly-formed committee to control football decisions.

On that committee alongside Ratcliffe, among others, will be Ineos Director of Sport Dave Brailsford and, according to The Financial Times, Joel Glazer.

This will be a blow to some Manchester United fans who hoped that Ratcliffe’s arrival was to mean the Glazer family would be removed from any involvement in sporting decisions at the club.

However, as majority owners, the Glazers will have a voice in the committee making the football-related calls, in the form of Joel.

Despite this, the Glazers’ influence on sporting matters will still be significantly reduced thanks to the arrival of the Ineos hierarchy.

Ineos are thought to be keen to make a swift impact at Old Trafford and are primed to begin right away by virtue of their experience with other sporting organisations and football clubs.

Ratcliffe’s proposal is expected to be ratified over the coming days, meaning Ineos could be in control of United’s business in the January window.

ESPN report that Ratcliffe is keen to make an impression in January and have a ‘positive’ transfer window to help appease fans that were hoping for a full sale and the Glazers leaving the club entirely.
