No fewer than 1,000 residents in the Ajah area of Lagos State have benefitted from medical outreach carried out in the area by a church, Divine Appointment Ministry International.
The residents were screened for malaria, typhoid, high blood pressure, blood sugar, and other ailments.
The medical outreach was part of activities lined up for a programme tagged the ‘Mega Grace International Convention 2023’, which ended over the weekend.
The General Overseer of the church, Pastor Ben Eragbai said the beneficiaries were also given drugs free of charge.
He noted that some residents received free eye examination and glasses prescription from an Opthalmologist that was on the ground during the screening.
Speaking on the essence of the medical outreach, Eragbai explained that the gesture was meant to help the common man during the current economic downturn.
He said, “We began this operation in 2007 with the sole purpose of assisting people to obtain free medical care. Since the economy is still struggling or maybe growing worse, our church has chosen to do its part to assist those in need to freely access medical care.
“Additionally, receiving professional care these days is unusual due to the Japa syndrome that affects doctors and nurses.
“Free medications were distributed and the on-site doctors treated patients according to their ailments.
“Those with more severe conditions were sent to a hospital at the church’s cost.”
One of the beneficiaries, Razaq Bamidele commended the Church for the gesture, adding that this was the second time he would be benefiting from the free medical exercise.
“I always look out for their programme because apart from free medicals, I have received a lot of food stuff from them even though I am a Muslim. I will bring my wife and children and they will be treated and given malaria medicine.
“My major problem is High Blood Pressure and even without taking drugs, the foods stuffs and gifts that I received made me feel better.”
