Alan Shearer has blamed the Glazer family for Manchester United’s problems on the pitch this season.
The Red Devils has endured a rough start to the campaign and are 10th in the Premier League table after eight games, losing half of their top-flight fixtures.
Erik ten Hag’s side have not performed any better in the Champions League with defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray respectively.
Questions have been pointed at Ten Hag and last week bookmakers slashed the odds on the Dutchman becoming the first Premier League managerial casualty of the season.
United looked on course for defeat at home to Brentford on Saturday before Scott McTominay scored twice in added time to turn it around, a result which saw Ten Hag avoid the sack, according to club legend Peter Schmeichel.
Shearer, though, does not feel manager Ten Hag is to blame for United’s problems and has instead pointed his finger at the club’s owners.
The Glazers put United up for sale nearly a year ago but despite an exhaustive auction process and two stand-out offers – one from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the other from Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim – the club is no closer to being sold.

United fans have staged many protests against the Glazers’ ownership of the club and regularly wear yellow and green scarfs to mark their disapproval of the Americans.
‘What is happening at the very top of the football club, inevitably at some stage it always filters its way down onto the pitch,’ Shearer told The Rest Is Football podcast when quizzed about United’s woes.
‘People will say it shouldn’t do, it’s got nothing to do with the players what’s going on in the boardroom, but it happens. You know it does. There’s discontent among the fans because of the owners and that has filtered down onto the pitch. I don’t see it getting significantly better until that changes.’

Meanwhile, Shearer feels that midfielder McTominay deserves a start when the Red Devils face Sheffield United after the international break following his heroics against Brentford.
‘It’s one of the few positions in the Man Utd team that is still being questioned in terms of how good they are in that area,’ Shearer added.
‘He’ll be thinking that it’s not going great for the players in there and that he deserves a chance. You’d imagine after the international break that he will get his chance.’
