Manchester United youngster Willy Kambwala is training with the first-team squad amid the club’s growing injury problems.

The 19-year-old centre-half joined the club from Sochaux in 2020 having captained France at Under-16 level. Since the move, however, he has suffered a string of injury problems including an 11-month layoff just weeks after arriving at the club.

Kambwala trained with the first-team towards the end of last season with the teenager again pictured working with the group ahead of the Champions League clash against Galatasaray with Brentford coming to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Kobbie Mainoo was also pictured training with the group on Monday.

United have beset by injuries this season, particularly at the back where they are without Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia with Sergio Reguilon, brought in as emergency cover at left-back, also now ruled out until this month’s international break.

At centre-half, Lisandro Martinez is facing another lengthy period on the sidelines, set to undergo surgery for the second time this year, Ten Hag confirmed on Monday.

The Argentina international suffered a fractured metatarsal in April and will now undergo another operation to address that problem which could sideline him for three months.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another who is unavailable with reports suggesting he could be out until November.

United have also been without Raphael Varane who missed three games through injury, returning to the side for last week’s Carabao Cup and Premier League games against Crystal Palace.

Harry Maguire is also back after a recent knock with Victor Lindelof and Johnny Evans both available.
