Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been boosted by the return of Kobbie Mainoo to full training ahead of the side’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

The youngster was the early star of United’s pre-season tour, when he was named man of the match for his performance in a 2-0 win against Arsenal.

Mainoo, a United academy product, was rewarded for that display with a start against Real Madrid in United’s next pre-season game.

However, Mainoo hobbled off the field after injuring his ankle and left the stadium on crutches.

It was a huge blow to the youngster, as well as Ten Hag – who is said to be ‘in love’ with the midfielder’s play.

With United struggling in midfield this season, Mainoo could have stepped into the starting XI during the absences of Scott McTominay and Mason Mount.

It’s therefore been a frustrating two months for the youngster, but he was pictured in full training today as United prepare for the visit of Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The best Mainoo could hope for is a place on the bench on Tuesday, with Saturday’s game against Brentford a more realistic opportunity for his return.

Antony also returned to training, having been given a leave of absence in recent weeks.

The Brazilian has been accused of domestic abuse by a woman in Brazil, though he denies the charges.
