The Gombe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Gombe, on Tuesday, struck out a petition filed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against the victory of Governor Inuwa Yahaya and his deputy, Manasseh Jatau, in the 2023 governorship election in the state.
The ADC’s petition was based on the alleged discrepancies of names on the academic certificates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the deputy governor for the March 18 election.
However, the Tribunal presided over by Justice S.B Belgore dismissed the petition.
The judge ruled that the case was a pre-election matter, adding that Jatau has the minimum requirements to run for the office of the deputy governor.
The Tribunal also struck out ADC’s allegations of malpractices and vote buying during the governorship poll for lack of proof.
Meanwhile, the Tribunal is at present deciding on the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate in the election.
